Overview and Design
The Saint 4-Drawer Dresser with Changing Top combines a vintage-inspired aesthetic with a functional, yet safe, storage option. It is a smaller-sized dresser, about the width of a changing table. This fit perfectly in the spot I needed it for, without losing storage space. The drawers are tall and deep to fit plenty of tiny baby clothes!
I fell in love with it online since it had a classic, vintage look that I was going for in my nursery. I did want the brown color at first, but they were out of stock, so I ended up buying the white one instead. The painted surface is non-toxic and has safety features for tip-over prevention.
First Impressions
The quality of this dresser is so amazing. I was skeptical at first, just because I have gotten bad furniture in the past from other brands. The wood pieces are so strong and durable, truly matching high-end furniture pieces. All of the pieces were wrapped individually in the box, ensuring that nothing would be damaged. My husband, who has a lot of experience in carpentry, was shocked at how well this dresser was made and approved of its sturdiness. It overall is a very well-built dresser and is designed with details and safety in mind. Take a look at these beautiful vintage details!!
Functional Features
Changing Top
The dresser comes with a removable changing top, which blends effortlessly into the dresser. It comes off once your baby is out of the diaper stage (could it come any sooner??). This leaves you with a piece of furniture that you can continue using for years!
With the quality of this dresser, I really do think it could survive even the roughest toddler stages. As you can see below, any normal-sized changing pad fits perfectly on the top piece that prevents it from sliding around during diaper changes.
Storage Layout
The Saint dresser includes two smaller drawers and two larger drawers. They have a beautiful wood grain on the bottom. I personally like to use the top ones for diaper changing essentials, such as wipes, diapers, and creams. The bottom drawers are spacious and can hold a lot of baby clothes.
I do like to add my own drawer organizers to large drawers, especially since baby clothes are so tiny in the beginning. I included a picture of the organizers in the large drawer so you can see the extra space it has. For context, these organizers barely fit in the other drawers I had, so this is a big increase in space.
The dresser in my other nursery is vintage but has a lot of tiny drawers. I prefer the Saint dresser since the drawers are taller and deeper, giving me more space to shove – I mean, fold – clothes in.
Safety System
The dresser has a built-in interlocking mechanism that prevents more than one drawer from being opened at once, reducing tipping risks when children explore drawers. This was so confusing at first, especially when assembling it, because we could only open one drawer at a time. It’s a great design, but I didn’t even know it was a feature until after. There is also an optional wall anchor if you want extra stability.
Assembly
This part was tricky. The box was extremely heavy, so my husband and I had to assemble it downstairs before bringing it up to the room. Even after it was assembled, it was still very heavy and definitely required two people to move. We did have a few hiccups when putting it together.
First of all, you will need power tools for this project. Some of the steps specifically say you will need power tools, which are not included. So you may want to look into that before starting. I did appreciate how everything was wrapped together in the order of the steps. If you were working on assembling the drawers, everything you needed was in one place.
One thing I noticed was that they did not give you any extra screws for any steps, so be careful not to lose any while putting the dresser together. We did put on one of the top drawers upside down, which we had to fix at the end. (Just note that there is a left and right top drawer. Learn from my mistakes).
The most challenging part of assembling the dresser was trying to put the drawers in at the end. For some reason, the safety mechanism makes it difficult to line up the drawers perfectly. The whole process is just very tedious, but that’s what makes it sturdy and of such good quality. I would say it took about one hour total for us to put it together, but it could take longer if you don’t have the right tools or anyone to help you.
Aesthetics
The Saint dresser looks so high-end and vintage. I have a few different vintage dressers in my home that I have redone, and a lot of times, when you get something for the vintage look, you also get an older piece of furniture with scratches, sticky drawer slides, and several other issues. This dresser gives you the classic look with brand-new features.
I love the design on the sides of the dresser, and that you can get the matching crib style also from Delta Children. I was nervous about the white against my cream walls, but it has grown on me! It looks great in my nursery, and isn’t too bright of a white.
Functionality
The changing top is durable and fits your standard changing pad. We built our own changing top for the dresser in our other nursery, and the one on the Saint dresser is way higher quality. I think the height of the dresser is taller than what I am used to, but it works great for our family. The size is okay if you have space for other items elsewhere, such as an additional closet. The other dresser I have is bigger, but I also don’t have a lot of things in the baby’s closet. I think the size of the Saint is small, but it works because I have a huge closet in that room that I can use for extra things. As far as everyday clothes and diapers, I think this is a good size dresser.
Price
You can find the Saint dresser on Delta Children’s website for $399. I think this is an average price for a dresser like this, especially one of high quality with extra details. While you could get a cheaper, simpler dresser from Target or Walmart, the quality of the materials won’t be as good as the one from Delta Children. I had a dresser from Target that I had to throw away after just one year because the drawers were not sturdy at all. The bottom busted on 3 of the 6 drawers, and it just wasn’t made well. I don’t see this happening with the Saint dresser, since it is built so much better and with thicker boards.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Attractive high-end vintage style
- Removable changing top adds long-term usability
- Interlocking drawers and wall anchor for safety
- Meets standards for safety and non-toxic
- Generous drawer space
Cons:
- Assembly can be difficult and time-consuming
- Very heavy
- Drawer fit may be misaligned and might take some finessing
Comparisons
I looked at a few other options before landing on this one from Delta Children, so I thought I would include them and how they measure up to the Saint.
IKEA HEMNES 3 drawer dresser
The Hemnes went viral a while back, and it is extremely affordable at only $249 for a 3-drawer dresser. It is made out of solid wood and has large drawers. I decided against it, though for a few reasons:
- IKEA furniture is so white. It isn’t inviting or cozy. They also are usually very simple designs, lacking character or details. This just isn’t my style at all.
- No changing topper included. After building my own, I really wanted one that came with the dresser this time around.
- No interlocking drawer safety system.
- IKEA assembly is always so complicated.
DaVinci Kalani 3 drawer dresser with changing tray
This dresser can be found at Target or Wayfair. Both are stores I’m not a huge fan of when it comes to furniture, though. This one does have the removable changing tray, but only comes with 3 drawers. That may be fine if you have space elsewhere for more baby items, but I don’t think 3 drawers would be enough for us. Also, this dresser is lighter in construction and has more flimsy drawers. From my experience, I am choosing to stay away from these types of dressers just because they don’t last. I can’t imagine it staying together with a toddler pulling on it!
Final Thoughts
The Delta Children Saint 4-Drawer Dresser with Changing Top balances style, functionality, safety, and value. It’s well-suited to families looking for an affordable but very attractive nursery dresser that transitions easily into a toddler dresser. If you’re willing to assemble it with some patience, you will end up with a lasting piece of furniture that elevates your nursery space. I absolutely love the classic details on the sides of the dresser and am still shocked at how high-quality this piece is for such a great price.
