Callie 4-in-1 Upholstered Crib Full Review

I recently purchased a brand new crib from Delta Children for my 10-month-old. My husband and I built our previous one, which was a great idea at first. However, now that we have a 25-pound baby shaking the crib back and forth, I started looking at other options. I am a borderline beige mom, so I was looking for a neutral wood color with some upholstery to match our nursery chair. I finally found the perfect crib on Delta Children’s website – the Callie. It is one of Delta’s babyGap-branded cribs that gives the perfect modern look, while assuring stability and practicality. An added plus is that it is convertible, so it can grow with your kid. Since I love it so much, I wanted to share some things about it, including design, features, assembly, pros and cons, safety, and more.

First Impressions

When I first came across the Callie 4-in-1 Upholstered Crib on Delta Children’s website, it immediately stood out from the sea of standard, all-wood cribs I’d been scrolling through. This design is softer and cozier than the slatted-wood options, giving it more of a designer look. The upholstered end panels aid in this style, which was exactly what I was looking for in my nursery.

What really piqued my interest was the 4-in-1 convertible design. My previous crib, which my husband and I lovingly assembled ourselves, was not that sturdy and limited – there was no way to extend its use beyond the baby stage. The Callie’s ability to transform into a toddler bed, then a daybed, and even a sofa with the right conversion pieces means it can truly grow with your child through multiple stages. That kind of longevity is priceless, especially when baby furniture is only used for a short time. For me, this longevity made the price tag a lot easier to accept.

Pulling it out of the box, I was immediately impressed by the craftsmanship. The materials felt solid, with upholstery that looked well-made. It really elevated the basic crib look by adding the boucle fabric, while still keeping it functional and practical. Plus, seeing the safety certifications right on the box – Greenguard Gold and JPMA – offered peace of mind that the crib wasn’t just beautiful, but also built with our sweet baby’s safety in mind.

Pros

  • Stylish, furniture-like design with upholstered end panels (either boucle or performance fabric) that elevate nursery decor. My favorite part of this crib!
  • 4-in-1 convertibility – transitions from a crib to a toddler bed, then to an optional daybed or sofa, extending the life of the product.
  • Strong safety certifications – JPMA certified, Greenguard Gold, and OEKO-TEX
  • Stain-resistant upholstery for easier cleanup of any spills or baby messes (which are inevitable)
  • Adjustable mattress height to accommodate newborn through toddler stages. Especially helpful if you have a 95th percentile baby like I do.
  • Standard crib mattress size makes it easy to find compatible mattresses and bedding.

Cons

  • Conversion rails and mattress sold separately. It did come with one extra rail piece, but you would still need to purchase more items if you want the other convertible options.
  • Engineered wood may not be as strong as solid hardwood, but still durable enough for daily use.
  • Assembly can be heavy, but easily done with two people.
  • Larger than your average mini crib, so it is not ideal for smaller nursery spaces.
  • Sits lower to the floor than your average crib, probably since it is meant to convert to a toddler bed. May present a challenge to get your baby out of the crib if you have back issues.

Design, materials, and finish

Callie 4-in-1 Upholstered Crib Full Review

The Callie sits halfway between nursery necessity and living room furniture, which I love. After shopping around for a few days, all of the cribs started to look the same. When I found this one on Delta’s website, it was exactly what I was looking for – a crib that could blend seamlessly with the rest of our modern nursery decor, rather than standing out as a baby item. The boucle upholstery on the end panels adds texture and warmth, similar to the cozy nursery chair I already own.

Despite the plush look, safety is never compromised. The side rails are still your classic slatted pieces, ensuring proper airflow and meeting rigorous safety standards. Delta highlights the end panels as being stain-resistant to protect the fabric, meaning that those inevitable spills can be wiped clean easily, keeping the crib looking fresh over time.

The crib’s frame is constructed from engineered wood, which is a mix designed to keep costs reasonable without sacrificing durability. While it may not be as heavy-duty as solid hardwood, it holds up well to daily wear and tear. My 25-pound baby can’t move this crib very easily, so it’s a win in my books. This wood mix was a great option for my family since the heirloom solid wood is completely out of our price range, but it is still functional, even when my baby is shaking the rails.

Safety and certifications

Safety is the non-negotiable baseline for any crib. The Callie carries JPMA certification, which means it was independently tested to ensure safety. It’s also listed as Greenguard Gold certified, so it went through extra tests to produce the lowest chemical emissions possible. Since this crib has upholstery, it also has OEKO-TEX certifications for textile safety. All that to say, you don’t have to worry about buying something that isn’t safe for your child.

Some things to consider with safety: always use the correct mattress and follow mattress height guidelines as your baby grows. Because the Callie is convertible, make sure conversion kits or guardrails are compatible and installed correctly if you convert it later on to keep your child safe.

Assembly

I’m not going to lie; my husband assembled this for me. I was watching him build it as I played with my baby. He is the handyman in our household. The only part he really needed help with was holding up the end panel so it didn’t fall over when he was screwing pieces in. I did help him bring it in since it’s a little heavy, about 75 pounds. All the tools you need come with it, so no worries if you don’t have a lot of tools. It took him about 30 minutes to assemble, start to finish. The crib has 4 positions that the mattress can be set at, perfect for newborns all the way to toddlers. You will be left with an extra piece at the end to convert it to a toddler bed later on, so keep an eye out for that!

Performance

My baby shakes our old crib so easily, so I was prepared to put the Callie to the test. After a few weeks of trying it out, I can definitely say it is a great product for even my hyper baby. It is very sturdy when he is jumping and shaking on the sides. The only thing I noticed about this crib is that it is very low to the ground. I am not sure if that’s because it is convertible, so it needs to be low for toddlers to be able to get out. Either way, it is definitely an adjustment and a struggle to get my heavy baby out over the sides of the crib. It would be better if they made the sides able to fold down, but I think they stopped making cribs like that due to safety concerns. Luckily, my baby is sleeping through the night now, so I don’t have to get him out very often. However, if I had to bend down there multiple times a night, I wouldn’t be too happy about it.

Comparisons

There are a few other options I considered before deciding to purchase the Callie crib from Delta Children. One was the Little Seeds Piper Upholstered Metal Crib from Ashley Furniture, and the other was the Harmony 3-in-1 Convertible Crib from Crate & Kids. Below, I am going to compare and contrast these since they all have similar styles.

Delta Children Callie 4-in-1 Upholstered Crib

  • Convertibility: Crib -> Toddler Bed -> daybed -> sofa
  • Style/Material: Engineered wood with upholstered end panels (boucle fabric); modern, furniture-like aesthetic
  • Certifications: JPMA, Greenguard Gold, OEKO-TEX
  • Pros: Stylish upholstered design, convertible use, practical
  • Cons: Short to the ground, not solid wood, conversion pieces sold separately
  • Price: $549

This crib may be best if you want long-term use through four stages and prioritize strong safety certifications. Bonus if you are looking for a stylish, upholstered furniture-like aesthetic.

Little Seeds Piper Upholstered Metal Crib by Ashley Furniture

  • Convertibility: Crib -> toddler bed with separate toddler rail kit
  • Style/Material: arched powder-coated metal frame with upholstered panels (faux velvet), vintage look
  • Certifications: JPMA compliant, non-toxic finish
  • Pros: Elegant metal and upholstery blend, easy to clean, adjustable mattress heights, one-year limited warranty
  • Cons: not as many conversions available, lower weight capacity (about 50 pounds)
  • Price: $383

Best if you love vintage-inspired, arched metal frames with plush upholstery and retro flair. If budget is a big factor, this is the most affordable option. Not many convertible options and limited weight capacity, so may not be the best long-term option.

Harmony 3-in-1 Upholstered Crib by Crate & Kids

  • Convertibility: Crib -> toddler -> full bed
  • Style/Material: upholstery on the back and front panels, carved wood details, neutral and timeless look
  • Certifications: GreenGuard Gold
  • Pros: Neutral upscale aesthetic, long-term use through full bed stage
  • Cons: on clearance, so not returnable
  • Price: $610 (on clearance)

The Harmony is best if you want an elegant, classic design that blends with either nursery or big kid room decor. This one is perfect for long-term use since it can convert into a full-sized bed. You do have to commit to it, though, since it is on clearance and cannot be returned.

Final Verdict – Who should buy the Callie?

Buy it if you want a nursery piece that looks like furniture and pairs well with a modern, cozy nursery aesthetic. As every other Delta Children product, it has all the safety certifications and more, so you can have peace of mind while your little one sleeps (hopefully). If you are planning to reuse the piece through toddlerhood and beyond, the convertibility of this piece is a great addition.

Skip the Callie, or consider other options if your budget is extremely tight and you prefer the cheapest functional crib available. I know how much babies cost, especially if it’s your first, so there is no shame in opting for a more affordable option! If you have a smaller space, I don’t think the Callie is your best option since it is on the larger side.

Summary

The Delta Children Callie 4-in-1 Upholstered Crib is a smart middle ground: stylish enough to be a room focal point, practical enough for everyday parenting, and certified to modern safety standards. It won’t be the top choice in heirloom furniture, but for parents who want something that feels cozy, wipes clean, and grows with your child, while still offering the reassurance of JPMA and Greenguard credentials, the Callie deserves strong consideration. I am still impressed with the durability and sturdiness of this crib, and I know it will last for years to come. The aesthetic and character it brings to my nursery was exactly what I was hoping for, and more. Although I wish it came with all of the available conversion pieces, especially for the price, I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend it if you are looking for something similar.
