Nest Nursery Swivel Recliner Full Review

I spent so much time looking for an Instagram-worthy recliner for my newborn’s nursery. I had a clear vision: a soft, white chair that matched our crib and complemented the overall aesthetic of the room perfectly. On top of all that, I was also looking for something comfortable, functional, and in a reasonable price range. Easier said than done! So many of the chairs I came across online were either wildly overpriced or had really bad reviews. After a ton of research, my final pick was the Nest Nursery Swivel Recliner from Delta Children. I’ve now been using it regularly for a few weeks, and I’m excited to share an honest review of the chair: what I love, what I think could be better, and whether it’s worth buying for your baby’s nursery.

Overview

The Nest Nursery Swivel Recliner is a manual swivel-recliner designed for nurseries with a modern aesthetic (mainly the reason I purchased). It features a sleek chrome base, plush upholstery, and a dual reclining system that gives you the flexibility to raise just the footrest or recline fully. Some quick details about the chair:

  • Swivel and dual recline positions – raise only the footrest, or both back and footrest for maximum comfort (and baby snuggles)
  • Quiet glider mechanism on a sleek chrome metal base, ensuring not to wake up baby
  • Plush chenille upholstery – my favorite part about this chair! Seriously so soft and comfortable. Also GREENGUARD Gold and OEKO-TEX certified fabric, for safe air quality!
  • Comfortable, yet firm cushioning – further details to follow
  • Contemporary design with chrome base and two color options (Oyster and Fog)
  • Price Point around $449.99, occasionally on sale.

First Impressions

When I opened the box, I was obsessed with the fabric this chair is made of. The Oyster color looks so appealing and cozy in my nursery, and pairs well with the crib I picked out. The chair feels like a soft blanket but doesn’t make you sweat. I’ve included a picture below to show the details of the fabric. I also love the chrome accents on this recliner. The assembly was incredibly easy. It was a little heavy, about the weight of your average recliner, but I was able to set it up on my own in under 10 minutes. All I had to do was push in the top of the recliner into the base, and then cut the zip ties at the bottom to allow it to swivel.

Comfort

Support & Cushioning

I will say I was a little shocked at how firm this recliner was the first time I sat in it. Maybe since it looks like a blanket, I was expecting the bottom cushion to be softer. I have a few different recliners in my home, and this one is definitely the firmest one I have. It isn’t so firm that it is uncomfortable, though, unlike some cheaply made furniture. I have sat on it multiple times a day to rock my baby to sleep, and since then, it has grown on me a lot. It is a chair I don’t mind sitting in for short periods of time, but I don’t think I would want to nap in it. Over time, I’ve actually come to appreciate the firmer cushion since it makes it easy to get up with a baby in your arms. The soft, cozy fabric encourages me to stay in it a lot longer than I usually plan to!

Size

I think this is a perfectly sized chair. I have plenty of height for my head to rest, and extra space on the sides. This is better in comparison to my Mercer recliner from Delta Children, which I found to be very small (see this review article here). I really love the size of this chair, and it fits well in my nursery.

Reclining and Motion

The swivel and glide functions work great on this chair! It is so quiet, even when reclining back. I always had that problem with my manual La-Z-Boy recliner – it made a clunky, loud noise every time I would close or open the recliner. The Nest recliner, however, is very smooth and quiet in comparison. I applaud them for these mechanisms because nothing is worse than waking a baby from your recliner. This makes it the perfect chair for night feeds or naps without waking the baby.

I do prefer my power recliner, though, just because of the convenience of pushing a button. This is personal preference, and both manual and power recliners have their pros and cons. Manual recliners tend to have better longevity than electric ones, but I find I can get more comfortable reclining in a power recliner.

Aesthetics

Looks do matter – especially if you’re designing a nursery you want to enjoy being in. This chair nails the modern, neutral look. I absolutely love this chair for how it pairs so well in my nursery. I got the Oyster color, which is a beautiful, soft white. The chrome base gives it a sophisticated touch. The chenille fabric adds so much comfort and coziness to the chair, yet it is still durable and elegant! I’ve had multiple visitors comment on how cozy it is in the room.

Comparisons

I now have a total of three recliners in my home, so I would like to compare the Nest recliner to my other two. One is the Hawthorn Rocking recliner by La-Z-Boy, and the other is the Mercer power recliner from Delta Children. For reference, I have included pictures of each below!

As you can see, the Nest is very similar to the Hawthorn La-Z-Boy chair. I definitely prefer the Nest over the Hawthorn for a few reasons:

Price

The price of the Nest is almost half of what you will pay for almost any La-Z-Boy chair, for that matter. This was a big deal to me because while I want something decent for the nursery, I also had a lot of other expenses when it came to preparing for a baby. The Nest is about the same price as the Mercer power recliner. This comes down to what you want in a recliner. I love the Mercer since it is electric, but it is a very small chair in comparison to the Nest. If you don’t mind a manual recliner and want more space, I would opt for the Nest!

Material

I have said this a lot, but it is because I love the feel of the Nest so much. The other two chairs don’t compare in this category at all.

Swivel Feature

The Nest is a swivel recliner, while the Hawthorn is not. I didn’t realize how much I needed a swivel recliner until I got this one. It is so easy to just turn in every direction to grab whatever I need. I highly recommend that any new parent consider getting a swivel chair since it has been so helpful for me!

Reclining

I prefer the Nest over the Hawthorn also because of how much quieter it is to recline back and push the chair back in. Even to this day, my La-Z-Boy chair is so loud when you close the recliner. I absolutely hated this about it, and often just left it open and struggled to get out of it. The Nest, though, is very quiet which is perfect to have in my nursery,

Other Thoughts

As far as comfort goes, the Nest would not be my first choice. It has grown on me since using it for a few weeks, but it is not my favorite chair to sit in for long periods of time. If you are planning to co-sleep or anything like that in your recliner, I would look at other options that may be more comfortable. It works perfectly for me, though, because I just sit in it for a few minutes at a time.

If you’re torn between any of these three, here’s my quick take:

  • Go with the Nest if you care about looks, quiet motion, and premium fabric.
  • Choose the Mercer if you want power reclining and USB charging in a smaller chair.
  • The Hawthorn is for those of you who appreciate an older brand. It is comfortable but has no swivel, and is much pricier.

Overall

The Nest Nursery Swivel Recliner has been a beautiful, practical addition to our baby’s nursery. I think this chair is perfect for people looking for a stylish, cozy nursery chair. The firm cushion may not be for everyone, but I find it supportive. While it doesn’t have any fancy power recline or USB ports, it is the softest chair I have sat in. For the price, especially compared to designer chairs or La-Z-Boy options, you’re getting an excellent value. The premium fabric, smooth motion, and modern design all make this recliner an excellent option. It excels for parents wanting quiet functionality and comfort without paying a ton of money.

If you’re planning to co-sleep or lounge for hours at a time, you might want something a bit softer or powered. If you do want an electric recliner with built-in charging for only a bit more, check out the Mercer Power Recliner. But if you’re mainly using this for feeding, rocking, or storytime cuddles, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!
